| Franco Camayo Din 20.Decembrie 2008 @ www.rolling.ro ![]() Rolling.ro: Your full name, age, location? Franco: FranCo Jose Cammayo, 25, SI.NY, home of the Wu Rolling.ro: How long have you been skating? Franco: About 15 years now Rolling.ro: How did things go 15 years ago when you first started skating? Franco: Well when I first started I didn't know an industry existed...let alone hundreds or thousands of other kids like me around the world were discovering something dope that would eventually take over their lives...it was just a thing that felt great to me...putting on my skates and rolling around the neighborhood jumping over things, I didn't even grind for the first 2 years hah ![]() Rolling.ro: Who do you skate for? (sponsors) Franco: B.unique & co, Able Hardware, aaand Mr. Julio hooks me up with Valos Rolling.ro: And which one is the most important to you? Franco: I'm playin, well I can't put them in any order really...they all play a significant role in my life and I've known the owners of these companies for years...Courtney and Chris of B.unique have been my hometown homies for a long time, Azikiwee at Able came through clutch for me last year when I broke my frames in Canada and he's been coming through for me nicely ever since...and Jon Julio is just the MAN, it's an honor to be getting hookups from him and getting to know him better these past few years Rolling.ro: What's new with B-unique and able? Franco: B.unique's always on the rise, always with something new under the belt, keeping people wondering what's up next hah...working on a few things, another big tour maybe...and Able has a nice Japan tour planned for the summer...Courtney is constantly going to meetings with corporate heads ![]() Rolling.ro: Do you think Romania's gonna be one of your stops with B-unique? Franco: I would love to say yes with a promise, but that's not under my control Rolling.ro: Can we expect a Valo Pro Model with your name on it? Franco: Hehe perhaps some day. That would be a dream come true. You can expect some sweet surprises from Valo this year though for sure as far as skates go Rolling.ro: How did you get to where you are now? (in rollerblading) Franco: But.. as far as being blessed with sponsors and getting to travel and see new things.. I just followed my heart, tried my best to make the right decisions and I didn't let any hardships or injuries get in my way ![]() Rolling.ro: How is it to be "an inline star"? Franco: Well, it's flattering that I'm known all over the world, we have a small world as far as blading goes hah Rolling.ro: What are your favorite spots to skate? Franco: I'm not all that picky, I'll skate anything but if I had to specify, the Brooklyn Banks would be one of my favorites, this little shit park called Bayonne that me and my boys go to have chill sessions at Rolling.ro: How is New York's rollerblading scene? Franco: Tretty sweet, I love that it's back on the rise...every time I go out I see handfuls of new faces...all my homies from back in the day started puttin' their blades back on ![]() Rolling.ro: Who do you prefer to skate with? Franco: On random weekends you can just go skate downtown Manhatten and run into random groups of 30 plus kids just have a sick session, Austin Paz and Fish, all my local homies motivate me alot too, my B.unique homies of course Rolling.ro: Who do you feel closest to, from the B-unique team? Franco: As far as who I get along with best on B.unique, Mel's right on the money with the family thing, we're more then a team, even though we all don't get together as much since our skatepark closed, when we get together it's like long lost brothers reuniting and buggin' out Rolling.ro: what does B-unique mean to you? Franco: Hmmm....put simply... just be yourself...B.unique to me is a group of people motivated towards showcasing rolling to the world in a way that they feel in their hearts what it should be portrayed...(haha does that make sense? ha because it did to me when I was typing it) everyone in the IBI fam brings their own cards to the table, their own style, their own personality we def are a family though, we've all known each other for years... ![]() Rolling.ro: Do you have any new projects for the future? Franco: New projects...well we're working on the follow up of The Truth, expect something tight for We Are Valo 3, aaaannd...Radius Media approached me about something Rolling.ro: Can you spill the beans and tell us something more about these movies? Franco: Ha sorry I don't have anything more inciteful for you Rolling.ro: What movies did you star in and wich one pleased you the most? Franco: There were a handful of very old NYC videos like Live From New York and Theories. Nature Skate Video's "ONE", that was a pretty dope video. I was in all of the B.unique team videos after freestyle rolling. O and as far as the showcase I was most proud of, it would be The Truth for sure, it was kind of a comeback section ![]() Rolling.ro: Are you into any other activities besides rollerblading? Franco: Well I go to college full time, I'm almoast done, a local college out here.. CSI(college of staten island), getting my degree in economics/finance this coming December Rolling.ro: Did you have a back-up plan in case rolling didn't work out? Franco: Collage. I can't really see myself wearing a suit to work in a box all day for the rest of my life though. But, worst case scenerio that's the back up hah Rolling.ro: What sacrifices did you make for this sport? Franco: I've had some brutal injuries through the years while trying to push stunts to another level, I wouldn't really call anything I've done for blading a sacrifice though, I was always ready and willing, if anything, collage made it a lot harder for me to put more heart into rollin' ![]() Rolling.ro: What was your best, and what was your worst experience in rollerblading? Franco: Best experience, there have been so many great experiences...going to Europe for the first time, Winterclash is a dope event with the ill vibe, so much love out there. My worst experience, my worst injuries, knocking my teeth out and almost ripping part of my lip off, splitting my nuts open...breaking my ankle, ummm almost breaking my back Rolling.ro: Which is the most important thing when you skate? Franco: Music...friends...fun...focus, in no particular order Rolling.ro: Which are the most important contests you have participated in? Best results? Franco: I got 2nd place in a Superhick once, placed top 5 at an Eisenbergs Hoedown, I was in first place going into the finals but I dislocated my ankle on my last trick going into the finals ![]() Rolling.ro: What skating videos do you like the most? Which is your favourite skater? And why? Franco: Favorite videos...VG3 and 4...Hoax 2...KFC videos are dope...there's so much I lose track ha. Jon Julio has been a huge inspiration to me since I started blading he's contributed so much to rolling, from constantly innovating styles and tricks, my boys Austin Paz and Fish motivate me hard, it's gross how good they are...there are more skaters but it would take too long to explain my reasoning ha Rolling.ro: What's your favourite combination and favourite trick? Franco: Hmmm...I dig sweatstances...torques..farves...back royals...fishbrains. I dunno', just feel good tricks that you can just skate as fast as you can too and smooth it out, throwing a kick or a wallride into and out of grinds is dope too Rolling.ro: What the most insane thing you've done on skates? Franco: I've done a lot of crazy shit, gap to rails in lines and thigns, umm...this huge gap to topsoul that was the intro trick in "Freestyle Rolling", this fence drop to a steep 15 stair rail that had a huge kink at the end that I did 3 times in a row because I wasn't happy with the landing hah Rolling.ro: Have you ever heard of any romanian rollerblader? and if so, what's your opinion? Franco: Bivol, I met him at Winterclash, real cool dude, and he shreds Rolling.ro: Ok, so...last question, what's your advice to the youth of rollerblading? Franco: Hmm...follow your heart...skate for the love...sponsorship isn't everything but if it happens, DOPE...nice solid style in my opinion is more important then tricks and spins for days... ![]() Interviu de English @ www.rolling.ro | Inapoi |
